The Current Beneath
Sarcastic Squirrel

Humor can bring relief, connection, and a clear-eyed way of naming something difficult. It can also leave part of what matters unsaid. You do not have to give up the joke to become curious about what else you want heard.

Recall a moment when a joke or sarcastic comment arrived before the rest of your words. What was said?

What else, if anything, did you want someone to understand in that moment?

How did the humor land for you and for the other person? What did you actually notice?

If you chose to say one part plainly, what words might you use?

When would you like to keep the joke, and when might you make room for something more direct?
